Green Juicing for Lyme & Other Diseases

Juicing is great for everyone children or adults, and for the healthy or chronically ill. We are bombarded with diet advice every day, convincing us to go vegan, veggie, keto, paleo, carnivore or some other scheme by a multinational like Weight Watchers or Slimming World to eat their low-fat low-calorie microwave plastic ready meals.

I’m not going to push different diets, but what I will talk about are the things worked for us, in our recovery from Lyme disease and the other chronic symptoms that were affecting us. Over the years I’ve realised that diets are a very touchy subject. But facts are facts.

Modern diets are high sugar, they’re heavily processed, full of bad trans fats, high in chemicals and low in nutrients. We live in a world where calorie counting is what we are told is important if we want to live healthy lives. But all calories are not created equally. Low calorie does not mean healthy. It can be very confusing.

In today’s article we will discuss why adding juicing to your diet, is beneficial, if you are diagnosed with Lyme or any other disease.

So why juice and what are the benefits?

When you start doing something, it’s important to know why you’re doing it and what outcome to expect. A lot of times when you change diets, add a new supplement or a different regime it may seem nothing is really happening.

But some changes are small or subtle others are noticeable straight away. Symptoms can get worse because of setting off detox symptoms or you may be allergic or intolerant to a new ingredient.

Because Lyme is a multi-symptom disease, and the different infections create layers of symptoms that are very similar. For example, if you have joint pain or brain fog problem it may be several things that cause it. It could be something/s in your diet, medications, supplements, cosmetics, cleaning products, water, pets, EMFs, stress or other environmental issues.

What I’m trying to say is that juice recipes can help, but only if the ingredients don’t cause or add to your symptom list. Also dependent on what disease you are suffering from some juices can be just as bad as drinking high sugar cans of coke.

A Green Juice Recipe to Help Heal Every Disease

Reducing inflammation is key to any disease or illness. So juicing is an ideal way to cut out processed foods, reduce sugar, and control good fats. Juicing also gives our digestive systems a good rest. Juicing allows us to go back to basics and can be extremely anti-inflammatory.

However, we tried and failed with juicing in the early days and never really found any benefits at all, in fact, it made us feel worse at times. But why when we were juicing organic fruit and vegetables? Even when we were told by some health professionals to keep juicing. We eventually realised the errors of our ways.

Firstly some foods, organic or not, contain naturally occurring chemicals, like histamine, tyramine, and salicylates, that do not agree with chronically ill people who have immune systems that are imploding. Secondly, infections thrive on high sugar, so adding lots of fruit like lemons, limes or oranges to a juice will feed the things you’re trying to get rid of.

Spinach and avocados are great for juicing and blending, but both are high in histamine. These 2 nutritious foods caused us countless problems and disappeared after about 30 days when stopped eating and juicing them.

Juicing Recipes for Lyme Disease or just for Good Health

This is our basic juice, we used this for about six months until we were in a position to start re-adding spinach and avocado. We use this juice as an additional meal or snack. Use a slow press juicer if possible but any juicer will do. Wash all ingredients, organic if possible.

Juice Ingredients

2/3 sticks of celery

½ Golden Delicious Apple (Green)

¼ of a large Cucumber

1″ Fresh Ginger (no skin)

Then juice in a slow press, then put to one side.

If you want to super boost the juice add the the following to a blender, and whizz for 5/10 seconds max.

1-2 Tablespoons of MCT Oil (C8) good for exchanging bad fats especially in the brain.

Coconut water 100ml.

¼ tsp (I add 1 tsp) of sodium ascorbate (Vit C)

½ tblsp Sunflower Lecithin helps absorption.

½ tsp L-Glutamine powder, good for digestion.

1 scoop of D-ribose, for chronic fatigue.

Next mix the 2 together either stir, shake or blend for no more than 5 secs.

The reasons I have used these specific fruit and vegetable ingredients are not just because they are high in vitamins and minerals, but they also contain non or very low amounts of; histamine, latex, tyramine, or salicyaltes and more, this make the juice anti-inflammatory. This took a lot of deducting from possible allergies and intolerance correlation.

Histamine (please see our article here), Latex, Salicylates, Tyramine, Pollens, and others need to be taken out of your Lyme diet fully.

We realised pretty early on that Lyme disease can mimic other conditions which in turn throws out allergy blood tests. Some tests can come back clear, a false negative, but really cause big issues for recovery and health. Another thing that took a long time to work out was that parasites thrive on these healthy foods, so doing a major parasite eradication is a must-do, with or without Lyme disease.

What are the benefits of Green Juice?

Here are a few benefits of Celery Juice;

Restores hydrochloric acid which is essential for digestion, celery juice helps breakdown food especially protein. Celery juice helps replete levels of gastric mucus, needed in the stomach lining and helps prevent ulcers and acid reflux.

Celery Juice helps lower bad cholesterol, Low-Density Lipids (LDLs) because Celery contains 3-n-butylphthalide (buPh) which has been reported to lower LDLs in the bloodstream.

Celery juice is anti-inflammatory, it contains polyacetylene that reduces chronic joint pain, gout, and arthritis. Celery juice also calms the nerves and has relaxing properties.

Research shows celery juice helps to lower blood pressure by acting as a muscle relaxant.

Celery juice, also helps the skin, liver, kidneys, fight infections, improve digestion, it’s also alkalising, and contains vitamins and minerals. 

The National Institute of Health states, celery is a bioflavonoid, it contains Apigenin and is one of the major antioxidants. Apigenin plays an important role in cancer prevention.

Here are a few benefits of Cucumber Juice; increases hydration, weight loss, delivers antioxidants, may prevent cancer, lowers blood pressure, healthy skin, boosts bone health, lowers inflammation. 

Here are a few benefits of Golden Delicious Apple; Lowers bad cholesterol lowers inflammation, improves neurological health, rich in antioxidants, flavonoids, and fiber. Phytonutrients in apples help to reduce the risk factors of, cancer, diabetes, hypertension and heart disease.

This is just one green juice we use, I can say it works because we have felt the benefits, we have also seen our blood test results improve. We also, more importantly, feel better as well. Green juicing is just common sense, give our overworked digestive systems a rest, absorb important nutrients into our systems and lower inflammatory responses. 

Lyme disease and other illnesses will not heal themselves and drugs only mask symptoms for a time. Healing requires commitments that are life-changing, juicing on its own will not cure Lyme disease. But it is an essential part of the healing process.

If you think about it we humans are essentially ‘biological juicers’. We eat food and turn it into a liquid. By juicing we are giving our over worked degestive system a break.
