UK Biological Warfare Testing
A government report showed how The Ministry of Defense used large parts of the UK as a giant laboratory from 1940-1979. A 60-page government report revealed how hundreds of secret operations were given the green light, using the UK population as Human Guinea Pigs. Here are a few of the experiments;
The Fluorescent Particle Trials
Between 1955 and 1963 the MoD used planes that flew from North East England to the tip of Cornwall and along the South and West coasts. These secret flights dropped massive amounts of ‘Zinc Cadmium Sulphide’ on the people below. The chemical drifted miles inland and was easy to monitor because it was fluorescent.
In another trial the same chemical ‘Zinc Cadmium Sulphide’ was sprayed from a generator while being towed along a road by a truck in Frome in Somerset.
‘Zinc Cadmium Sulphide’ – Cadmium can cause Lung Cancer and possible birth defects. The Allies classified it as a chemical weapon during WW2.
Large Area Coverage Trials
In the report, the MoD describes that between 1961 and 1968 over one million people all along the South Coast were exposed to bacteria including e.coli and bacillus globigii, which mimics anthrax. These releases were sprayed from a military ship named ‘Icewhale’, that was anchored off the Dorset coast. The ship sprayed the micro-organisms in a 5-10-mile radius.
E.coli; nausea, stomach cramps, diarrhea, fever, malaise, loss of appetite, dehydration.
bacillus globigii; Pneumonia like symptoms.
DICE Trails
These were secretly conducted in South Dorset between 1971 and 1975. The trials involved UK and US scientists who sprayed massive quantities of Serratia Marcescens bacteria, with an Anthrax stimulant and Phenol in the air.
The Sabotage Trials
Between 1952 and 1964 similar infections were released into the London Underground at lunchtime along the Northern Line, the infections dispersed about 10 miles.
Serratia Marcescens bacteria; Urinary and respiratory infections, endocarditis, osteomyelitis, septicemia, wound infections, eye infections, and meningitis.
Phenol causes; gastrointestinal damage, and even death, severe skin damage, irritation to the respiratory tract, difficulty breathing and muscle twitching.
Anthrax symptoms; flu-like symptoms, sore throat, mild fever, fatigue, muscle aches, chest discomfort, shortness of breath, nausea, coughing up blood, painful swallowing.
To conclude, the report also shows trials off the coast of Scotland and around the Caribbean using Anthrax. It is estimated that the MoD dropped 4600 kilos of zinc cadmium sulphide on British civilians from 1940-1979.
